Mom and Dad--Before I Knew Them

I found this picture of Mom and Dad (Kenneth and Evelyn) while I was looking through some "old stuff". Unfortunately there was no date on it. I am quite sure it was a picture they had taken at or right after their wedding.

My sister, Laura, found the marriage license -- dated 10/31/1935 (hummmm.... isn't that Halloween?) But the church document confirms they got married November 11, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio. Laura says they spent the night and a brief honeymoon in Angola, Indiana.

The witnesses at their wedding were Harried and Eberhardt, Mom's sister and her husband.

It is interesting to note that Mom's parents did not want them to get married. In fact, during the wedding her mother sat in the back of the church holding a newspaper up, hiding behind it, like she was reading. Later however, Dad became their "favorite" and they loved him and depended on him to help them in many ways.

Mom and Dad were married for almost 34 years, until Mom died in July, 1970.

I like the picture. Not as many pictures were taken then. It was expensive and not as convenient as it is today with digital cameras. I wish I had more pictures from back then.

Wow...you went almost a year without posting a blog! I am appalled! Lol. Just kidding. I really like the picture of Grandpa and Grandma Sevison. I wish I could have known them--Grandma at all, and Grandpa better. They must have been amazing individuals to have raised such great kids. ;) I love you, Dad!

What a cool picture, Dad! And I love the story about the newspaper. Lol! Glad they came to love Grandpa eventually. Stories like this are fun; thanks for sharing!

Actually, rumor has it that "grandma" may have been reading the newspaper out loud. But that is probably only rumor. It is also interesting in light of the fact that she was known as a very sweet lady.
